The Cure: Songs Of A Lost World Cassette

An incredible thing is happening this month. The Cure released a new album, Songs Of A Lost World, and it topped charts of all kinds in the United States.

It’s a pretty wild things for a band of their age to be topping charts with a new album. It should happen way more but it rarely does. Good for The Cure and good for music. We all need to be paying attention more when “way past their prime” bands come out with new stuff.

Anyway, I was pleased to see that The Cure came out with cassette tapes for their, now-acclaimed, new album. You can pre-order them on their website – there is a limited amount so don’t dick around, waiting to buy them.

Growing up I would have never considered myself a Cure fan, but, not too long ago, I saw The Cure play at Shoreline Amphitheater in the South Bay and they were so good, I became a fan.

My fandom is now solidified after watching their live show for the album release:

Binging On Cassette Player Videos

I was wondering Cassette Tape YouTube and watched and enjoyed these video that I thought you might like too.

Like the above review of the EZcap TapeDigi 1. It’s pretty cool how you can record radio onto an SD card (not that it’s better than recording onto a cassette *wink* or anything.

I found one on Amazon. Not super well rated but not terrible either.

And I watched this one of this gorgeous piece of cassette gear:

And this one:

What a wild little battery compartment.

We need our cassette player repair people, keep them safe.

Thanks for reading and watching.

Two Tapes and a Bummer

I have to tell you, I am enjoying getting tapes sent to me (this goober music blogger’s dream). I recently got three different ones sent. First being…

The Nausea: Requiem

So genius how Requiem can create a tense build that somehow keeps going. I can attest that it is good background music for writing or any damn thing really.

Requiem is out of Vancouver BC, and being a fan of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team, I am thinking this would make for some pretty epic tension music before an important puck drop. Very cinematic.

At the time of posting this, there are still tapes available.

Sansyou: Spaces In Between

Sansyou took care in creating a nice tape package, including putting it all on cobalt II tape, six page insert and PICKS! Yes I got some picks in the case. Nice atmosphere music too.

Sansyou runs out of DC. There are still cassettes of Spaces In Between available on Sansyou’s Bandcamp page.

ShangGORIL La Records

Such a bummer dude. This package from ShanGORIL La Records came open and empty. I am curious what made all the little dots on it. All the way from Hong Kong too and it cost them over $30 just to send it.

I don’t know what tape they sent me, but maybe it was Gateless Garden:

Nothing like a good cello tape to class up your day. Check out all of ShanGORIL La Records artists on their Bandcamp page.

If you are a label or band that would like to see your cassette on The Tape Player blog or newsletter, send it to:

HUM – You’d Prefer An Astronaut (On Cassette)

Instagram scrolling I came upon a clip of HUM playing “Stars” on Conan O’Brien and it reminded me of how much I loved that song. I then went and watched their performance of it on “120 Minutes” (they played it tighter this time):

So now I am like, well, I never had “You’d Prefer An Astronaut“, maybe it’s about time to find it on cassette. And now I discovered it’s a little bit valuable.

There is one on sale on Amazon for fifty bucks, which is pretty wild.

But hey, that is someone on Amazon, maybe it’s bullshit. Well, apparently not.

On eBay there is a factory-sealed “You’d Prefer An Astronaut” going for $115.00. So I have again wandered into a rare cassette I wasn’t aware existed.

Something to look out for next garage sale or thrift shop wander.
